Mr. Hoiberg deciding he was never going to get it done at the college level or at Iowa State to his own satisfaction and/or that he no longer wanted what he once did.

Between the Bubu situation and BDJ, failing to land any whales and basically sucking as a h.s. recruiter; and his team letting up enough this year to kick away their chance at a conference championship, and whatever happened in the 1st round NCAA (assuming he wasn't already checked out); and Bill Self seeming to have his number, if not always at the game level, at least in terms of appearing to get Mr. Hoiberg's goat fairly easily; and possibly the politics of dealing with strong personalities in his A.D. and school President and possibly the constant pressure of personal noteriety from being the big fish in the small pond at all times; perhaps Mr. Hoiberg opted for bigger pay working with basketball professionals in the more familiar waters of the NBA.
