IRVING, Texas – Iowa State All-American and Academic All-American Charlie Kolar added another award to his mantel this afternoon.

The star tight end, who recently won the William V. Campbell Trophy for the nation’s best scholar-athlete football player, was named the Big 12’s Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced today by the league’s office.

Kolar follows current Minnesota Viking star Kene Nwangwu as back-to-back Cyclone winners of the award.

A native of Norman, Okla., Kolar set the standard for tight ends and is one of the greatest players in Iowa State history. As a three-time All-American and three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, Kolar is the only football player in school history to earn First Team CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades three times.
