This is old news, but as the SEZ nears completion, it's time to look ahead to the next phase. Contract award is a little over a year away, with completion by the end of 2016. It will be interesting to see how this is going to look. I wonder if there are any new concept drawings in the public domain.
THIS PROJECT WILL DEVELOP THE SPACE BETWEEN JACK TRICE STADIUM AND REIMAN GARDENS THAT CONNECTS THESE TWO SIGNIFICANT SPECIAL EVENT PLACES WITH A NEW GREEN SPACE. THIS PROJECT HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO REINFORCE THE SENSE OF ARRIVAL TO THE IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS AND ENHANCE THE IMAGE OF THE UNIVERSITY AS A LEADER OF REGIONAL, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL IMPORTANCE. UNIVERSITY BOULEVARD HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED AS THE PRIMARY ENTRANCE TO THE UNIVERSITY; CONNECTING HIGHWAY 30 TO THE CAMPUS. THE PROJECT WILL PROVIDE A MEMORABLE FIRST IMPRESSION, ENHANCE THE ARRIVAL EXPERIENCE, PROVIDE CLARITY AND EXTEND THE PICTURESQUE LANDSCAPE CHARACTER OF CENTRAL CAMPUS. THE PROJECT SITE IS APPROXIMATELY 23 ACRES WITH DESIGN COMPONENTS TO INCLUDE WAY-FINDING, MULTI-MODAL CIRCULATION, FORMAL AND INFORMAL GATHERING SPACES, OPEN SPACE AND LANDSCAPE DEVELOPMENT. SPECIFICS MAY INCLUDE PARKING IMPROVEMENTS FOR REIMAN GARDENS, STADIUM PARKING ON GAME DAY AND FOR SPECIAL EVENTS, PATRON TRAFFIC/SITE CIRCULATION, VEHICULAR SERVICE ACCESS, PATRON WAY-FINDING, SITE/MONUMENT SIGNAGE, SITE INFRASTRUCTURE, LIGHTING, STORM WATER MANAGEMENT, WALKS, PLAZA, PLANTINGS AND A WATER FEATURE. THE LASTING IMPRESSION OF THE PROJECT SHOULD PROVIDE A WOW FACTOR FOR IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY BUILDING UPON THE SYMBOLIC ENTRY TO CAMPUS.
