The "stupid" being me. For ISU to win, we have to be able to RUN the football and stop the RUN, but particularly we have to run the football. To do that, we have to have:
  1. bigger backs that hit the hole fast;
  2. bigger stronger lineman that are fundamentally sound in run blocking;
  3. a running quarterback with some size (personally think the Colin Klein, Tim Tebow type suits our needs.)
  4. TE's and fullbacks available.
This obviously would take time because we have limited TE's and no FB's and way too many wide receivers. It would take a remake of our roster style. This suits ISU because, in my opinion:
  1. We don't get the quarterback talent to play the spread offenses;
  2. We could recruit quarteback talent that can succeed in a run-oriented offense;
  3. We have offensive lineman types in our geographic recruiting area;
  4. We have show we can get into the Jr. Colleges for TE's and defensive players.
That, too me, is the general formula for making it work at ISU. Run the damn football. And to do that, we have to be in a running formation, because we won't win enough talent recruiting battles to do it from the softer type formations.
