Found an interesting online calculator for congressional apportionment that people can play with Apportionment.
If Alberta became the 51st state, Alberta would get 6 EC votes. The result overall would be the blue states of California, Colorado, Minnesota, Oregon, would lose 1 vote each. and Montana and North Carolina would both lose a vote as well. The net effect is blue states would lose 4 votes, and red states (including Alberta) would gain 4 votes.
Surprising why democrats are not pushing harder for Canada to be brought into the USA, the more provinces that actually would join the US, the bigger the gain for blue states in terms of the Electoral College.
