Random thoughts in no particular order. Some have been brought up before. Not all are game related.

1. Why no halftime show? I know most don’t care but my wife and daughter went for the first time this year and we’re pretty disappointed. In general, the halftime shows have been declining.

2. I thought Prohm could have given Lewis a chance. I would have brought him in when we were going down in flames the first half, when nobody could hit a three or score at all. Why is he sitting there if you’re never going to use him? Even Try Griffin. He’s very athletic with a nice stroke and maybe could have stayed in front of the guards. Starters were struggling mightily. I know there’s a time to let them play through it but there’s a point it just becomes hard-headed. 27-4 run.

3. As other have mentioned, we need to be able to switch defenses a little more quickly when we’re getting burned. We played good defense at the beginning of the year but maybe had more to do with our opponents. For as much as CSP preaches defense, it doesn’t seem to be sinking in. Even Shayok, who was supposed to be a great defensive player from Virginia, gets beat a lot. Our guards are tall but not quick, with the exception of Wigginton. He’s quick but can’t guard. Opposing quick guards are feasting on our weakness. We need to have a zone ready to go.

4. Why not press earlier? We have depth and were getting killed. We needed more possessions but waited until it was too late.

5. Take the ball to the rack! We have so many open lanes where we could have taken it in for a dunk. Halliburton and Shayok need to learn to hammer it down. Halliburton gets in the lane, 5 feet from the hoop and then passes out when he could just score himself. Teardrop, layup, dunk, whatever. Just finish the play! Shayok has so many chances to take it to the rim but usually stops short and missed the layup. He finally dunked it on a fast break when he got the seam and it was beautiful.

6. There is no leader. No player is a leader and unfortunately I’m not seeing Prohm as a strong leader. I’m not sure his players respect him. I know he’s a nice guy and doesn’t seem to want to rock the boat. There are some people who can be effective that way but sometimes a fire needs to be lit under the players. There was nothing during that 27-4 run. Nothing I could see from Prohm other than a look of “ I don’t know what to do”. You can’t just count on Hilton to win you games. The last 3 games he’s been out there urging the crowd to stand up, which is ok, but that can’t be your Ace up your sleeve. I’m wondering how much depth there is to his coaching.

7. Lineups and players: Some of theses are puzzling. I’m not sure what Halliburton is bringing to the table now. He had a lot of assists several games back. When he and Babb are both in, they both look to pass first. One of them has to be a scorer. Halliburton has been very tentative to take a shot lately, especially in the lane where he could score a lot. He does have long arms for defense and I like him as a player. He gets lots of minutes with not much to show for it, however. Talley seemed to play well when in. He is good going to the rim and has realized he’s not a jump shooter. Lard needs to realize every pass isn’t going to be a lob dunk. He needs to get himself in position and screen his defender in order to catch some of these passes.

8. What is up with Wigginton? His shoot is off. He also doesn’t get any calls going to the hoop, but he has to realize he’s not big enough to do that sometimes. He is crazy athletic and has a great vertical, but can’t take contact. I was all for letting him play through his struggles but how long do you wait? Especially when he’s not playing defense or rebounding very well.

Sorry this is so long, and I’m sure I’ll get blasted for some comments, but just getting some thoughts out there. That’s what message boards are all about.
