I’m a do it yourselfer, and love doing electrical, framing carpentry, & painting. There are some things that need the tools, training and talent of a professional. We have done a lot of updating to the house and I’ve done about half of it. I’ve lived in Omaha for 40 years so I can usually get a recommendation on a craftsman that’s a good value.
Finishing drywall is one thing I’ve been warned away from trying being told the apprenticeship is 3 years long. I had a guy do mine on a remodel and watching him made me realize the talent and art involved.
Also, installing 2 foot by 2 foot tile where the floor was messed up from the prior tile and needs to be floated on a 5/8 inch layer of cementacious grout. That guy was also amazing and high priced I might add.
Finally, I installed my own locks and door hardware, but had a locksmith come out and rekey everything to match and add the deadbolts to steel the doors. That guy was reasonable and knew every trick in the book. Some things are worth paying for.
