Another great event that is so well produced. Stories anyone?
Our first guest arrived early and chatted with us a long time before the first round started. It was none other than Merv Krakau who played defensive line on those great Johnny Majors teams when I was in college. It was his first CHOT and hopefully won't be his last. We had the parents of a current player at our table, so I rounded up "dad" and introduced them. While that name is probably very familiar to most of us older folks on this board, it was not to the next generation. Merv was an All American and spent a half dozen years in the NFL, mostly with the Buffalo Bills. According to his ISU hall of fame induction writeup, Merv led the Bills in tackles (132) in 1976.
My team didn't quite match our T-32nd place finish last year, but tying for 44th is okay in my book. Anytime you finish in the upper half, it's good with me. Despite our lower finish, we were only 11 points out of first, where the higher finish last year was 14 points out of first. At least according to another member of our team. Official results will be published later.
For those that don't know there are 100 tables at the event. Eight rounds with 10 questions per round.
