College coaches can see 2018 West Des Moines (Iowa) Dowling Catholic prospect John Waggoner playing on either side of the ball at the next level.

For Iowa State, Waggoner is a defensive end prospect as of now, and that’s the position he was offered at following a Saturday night camp session in Ames. It was the first scholarship offer for the 6-foot-4, 225-pound Waggoner.

“After camp was over, I talked with Coach (Eli) Rasheed and he said they were going to offer,” Waggoner said. “I played D end in camp so he got to see me perform all night. I think there is still a lot of time left as far as what position I end up at. I feel I am pretty versatile. But they are talking D end right now.”

Waggoner said he attended an ISU game last fall and was impressed by the atmosphere.

“It was pretty crazy,” said Waggoner, who also attended a Cyclone basketball game over the winter. “Definitely the fans is one of the main things I like about Iowa State. The facilities are great, too. I’ve lived in Central Iowa all my life so I know a lot about the school and the program.”

Waggoner said he intends to camp at Iowa (6/12) and at Notre Dame (6/22) yet this month. Iowa State has been recruiting him the hardest, Waggoner said.

Waggoner said he ran a 4.8 40 at the Iowa State camp on Saturday, along with turning in a 4.4 time in the shuttle and a 28’2” mark in the triple jump.
