...other losses, and their subsequent inspirations...

For instance, 77 years ago today...

Today, we remember all those that survived and those killed on the island of Oahu on that fateful - Pearl Harbor, Hawaii - Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, and we honor the American patriots of the Greatest Generation who laid down their lives in the battles of World War II. America is forever blessed to have strong men and women with exceptional courage who are willing and able to step forward to defend our homeland and our liberty.
Although the United States Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor was badly impaired, on that Sunday, America did not falter.
[ after about 5 - 10 yrs in the 30's of U.S. pacifist, ignoring of the holocaust going on in Germany, and Italy's and Japan's Tyrannical / Dictator / Statist desire for conquests of land, resources and people ]...
....One day after the Dec. 7 attacks, the U.S. - no longer complacent, was awake - and largely changed it's tune (ssslowly having realized that doing nothing, being laissez-fair'e, would mean that socialism, tyranny - less and less freedoms - would arrive in the U.S. too ... not good for anyone...except the never satified, the few in control ala like in the sick Hunger Games)...]

One day ... (or 5 years - almost too late, and at such at high cost... for a high benefit (freedom - that too many were taking for granted.) )
... President Franklin Delano Roosevelt declared to the Congress: “No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.”

And, in the weeks, months, and years that followed the brutal attack at Pearl Harbor, Americans united with a steadfast resolve to defend the freedoms upon which our great Nation was founded.

Millions of brave men and women answered their country’s call to service with unquestionable courage. These incredible patriots fought, bled, sacrificed, and ultimately triumphed for the cause of freedom. We are blessed as a Nation to have as examples the incredible heroes of World War II, who fought so valiantly to preserve all that we hold dear. They tell of the mettle of the American spirit under fire and of the will of our people to stand up to any threat. The selfless bravery and dedication of these extraordinary Americans will never be forgotten.

[ if the sacrifice for others is forgotten, may God help us...
But, better yet, May we listen to God's messages to us, to allow God to help us, help ourselves to continue to endeavor to - selflessly, more virtuously, for others free future - help to make this a better place that how we found it...

To get a feeling of what Dec. 7, 1941 was like, Pearl Harbor:

The event, inspired (albeit 5-10 yrs slow in awakening to the real threats)
the U.S. to thwart the aggressors in the world... for 4 years... to help protect we-the-peoples freedoms...
it is sad that it takes tragedy for some to awaken to evil's conniving, coy, deceptive, insidious, selfish plans ... and delay of protecting peace, freedom, does come at a real cost...
(that - with greater wisdoms - could otherwise be prevented)

"an ounce of (wise) prevention
can be worth a pound of cure." - Ben Franklin

Who knows?

Maybe ISU fans, fb, wrestling, wbb, mbb may awaken a bit more, focus, and improve their games too...
( and humbly yes, we are good...but with room for improvements too... to become our best versions...)

Imho
I do not know
