Here is my dilemna, my living room has very high vaulated ceilings. Darn near the middle of the ceiling is a smoke detector so with no walls to rest an extension ladder on, only way to get to it to change a battery is either a really tall step ladder or a scaffold.

Years ago when the battery went out, I went to Home Depot and bought the tallest ladder they had, which was 14 ft. and that barely reached but was able to get the battery swapped out while standing very uncomfortably on one the last steps. FYI, I'm scared of heights. :) So I took the ladder back to Home Depot.

I'm pretty sure all the smoke detectors in the house are also connected in circuit with the electrical. What I want to do is have someone disconnect this one smoke detector entirely as I don't feel I need it with detectros in every other room in the house. Then either leave the non-functioning detectors as is to cover the hole, or put a dead plate on it.

So looking for someone that might be able to take on this job.
