Iowa State has an outstanding and loyal fan base. And it is growing, and probably will continue to do so with the rapid growth of the University. Our facilities are good enough that they are no longer an excuse. Our stadium has become top notch. Media coverage has improved and the television dollars are substantial. There is so much going right in the athletics programs, it seems we have created a foundation for something special in our future.
We will continue to have the disadvantage of location with few Division 1 football players in a sport that needs many. Winters can also be an obstacle for some recruits. The same can be said for a rural location, which may not appeal to some. But there are other programs that have overcome similar disadvantages and have prospered. It seems we are in the best position in my lifetime to capitalize on our positives and make our programs, particularly football, into something special. I'm ready for it.
