I know there are some solid researchers on this board. I have seen some tweets, like the one below, making passive-aggressive statements about team defenses having some of their worst performances against the Big 12 so far during the bowl season (this one does mention “non-con”, so maybe taking early season games into account):
I’ve done some preliminary research, and all I see are South Florida (Tech), VaTech (Okie State) and Stanford (TCU) as being outside a considerable +/- in points allowed.
- South Florida gave up 34 to TTech while giving up 23.1 on the season (+10.9)
- VT gave up 30 to Okie State while giving up 14.5 on the season (+15.5)
- Stanford gave up 39 to TCU while giving up 21.5 on the season (+17.5).
Looks to me like UCLA (KState) and Missouri (Texas) were consistent with their season averages, while Utah (WVU) outperformed.
- Utah gave up only 14 to WVU while giving up 24.6 on the season (-10.6)
- UCLA gave up 35 to KState, but they were garbage all year, giving up 36.8 on the season (-1.8)
- Missouri gave up 33 to Texas while giving up 30.7 on the season (+2.3)
Is this enough data to say defenses are struggling with Big 12 offenses? Now, the Big 12 has looked a lot better since Tech and West Virginia, so there is that.
Thoughts? More stats someone has (Cygarin? Army? Others?)
