I had this in my notebook from this week and hadn't worked it into a post just yet. I had a great conversation with defensive line coach Eli Rasheed off to the side before a camp. He says Tamatoa McDonough is already in town, reporting early, and really looks good. Thinks he's most definitely going to help at the LEO position, along with Vontroy Malone (who I presume is the likely starter). Also really likes Trey Verdon at LEO. Had a ton of great things to say about the true freshman and thinks he's a standout-in-the-making.
On the opposite end, Ikenna Ezeogu is now up to 285 pounds and the pressure is really on for him to contribute in a big way this season. Rasheed said they need him to step up and play a huge role. Ezeogu leads UNI transfer Cannon Butler at the strong-side end. He also had good things to say about Jace Gilbert at SDE. He believes Alijah Carnell will be that swing lineman in the mold of a JR Singleton.
