There are 40 bowl games this bowl season, but only 5 are available on broadcast television.
  • CBS is broadcasting the Sun Bowl (24 N.C. State vs Arizona State)
  • FOX is broadcasting the Foster Farms Bowl (Arizona vs Purdue)
  • ABC is broadcasting the Las Vegas Bowl (25 Boise State vs Oregon), the Liberty Bowl (Iowa State vs 20 Memphis), and the Citrus Bowl (14 Notre Dame vs 17 LSU)
I think it's great that Iowa State is one of the few on a major broadcast network. But what a change this is from years ago when New Years Day was spent switching back and forth between the big games on the major networks. Only one game will be on broadcast television on January 1st. ESPN has taken over almost the entire bowl season. That may not have made much difference when most people subscribed to cable TV. But with the decreasing number of cable TV subscribers, I wonder how many potential viewers are being lost. How many people will never know what that New Years Day college football experience is like?
