Some time in the next 4 to 4 and one half weeks, the Cyclones will start fall camp. Maybe the earliest ever, but probably at least the earliest since the Eddie Robinson Classic in 2002.
Things I will be excited to see (or hear about by any grapevine tidbit that escapes Fort Matt Campbell, aka, fall camp. Some off the radar (a bit) things i want to see (or hear).
1. Where are people going to end up on the Offensive line? We know who, more or less, but where people alight, particularly guards and center is not known.
2. How will the experience pay off at linebacker with people healthy? Bacon is a given and I assume Ebel who played all the time. McLaughlin, Brezina, and Goodwin are factors. Willich is quality if he can stay healthy. Lovett is good in coverage and Barnes got thrust into the thick of it. How does it shake out?
3. Do Flora and Peppers get in the mix at RB? Flora has serious speed and Peppers is maybe the power runner?
4. Does Moberly stay as number 2? Our friend, BC Blum, indicated Manske is the real deal with the "it" factor. Moberly was impressive the spring of his early entry. Do we have real depth behind Rocco? Do they have an opportunity to get some experience?
5. Who replaces Gilbert as the short punter? Kickoffs? Perkins and Konrardy give us the first line kickers. Are there others?
6. What walkons and freshmen make a splash? We always seem to have 6-8 true or RS frosh step up special teams and rotation players. Who will they be?
In 32 +/- days we begin to find out. Or the coaches will. There is something about football season.
