I like this group - maybe more than I should. Obviously Jones and Pettway will be missed. However, I think the pieces are there for a fine group. Since i am not totally versed in the X , Y, Z terminology, I am going to just list wides and slots.
WR - 1 - Sean Shaw - RS Soph - I expect a big jump from him. He is Butler-like. If he packs on muscle he could be a monster- great hands - good speed. Needs to run routes better.
WR - 2 - Xavier Hutchison - Junior (JC Transfer) - appears to maybe be our top WR recruit since Lazard? Appears to have take the top off speed.
WR - 3 - Joseph Scates - time to break out. He has a ton of potential and speed. The fact that he is still here after his start says something.
WR - 4 - Warren Wilson - Junior College transfer last year. Good Speed, hands a ? - Hopefully will become more accustomed to D1 ball.
WR - 5 - Darrien Porter - RS Freshman - fastest of the lot? - probably not ready just yet - needs to add weight and strength.
WR - Most speed we have had, but no prove number 1. All of these 4 have really good speed. If they develop it could really help The QB.
Slot Receiver
1. Tarique Milton - RSJunior - good speed - hands were good early, not so much late, - runs crossing routes well and could emerge as top-notch full time in the slot - clear number 1
2 - Landon Akers - real good speed - marginal hands. Pretty much straight ahead after the catch. Good special teams player.
3 - Leonard Glass - RS Freshman - good recruiting video a year ago - appeared to have good speed and quickness - but it was a highlight video
4 - Jalen Marten - RS Senior - has not done much - candidate for moving on?
There are 3 freshmen commits.
The words for the receiver group are "exciting potential" and "marginal game experience."
Tomorrow we look at Tight End.
