Lost in all the Hoopla is the "New Big 12" currently has 4 of the top 12 teams and 5 of the top 25. It has added huge TV Markets. No reason for it to be anything but P5 - other than illegal monopoly collusion.
I still would like a 16 team Conference with 2 divisions, with 1 crossover game, for an 8 game schedule. 3 Non-Conference games.
Then have crossover games Thanksgiving Weekend with 8 playing 8, 7 playing 7, etc. through 3 playing 3. Those 6 games would be played on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday. On Saturday you would have the the Conference Semi finals with the first place teams hosting the opposite division 2nd place team. The winners would play in the Conference Championship Game.
I would think that format would have a high potential for tv rights for "Playoff Weekend" with all the Thanks giving games. Sucks a bit for fans, planning and all that, but we need outside the box thinking. If not this, then there has to be something that is the right thing.
