ISU recruit Jack Gaukel of SBL goes 8-0 at SE Polk tourney this weekend. 4 pins, 2 tech falls and 2 decisions. From the Des Moine Register online:
4 Triple Crown winners
USA Wrestling has a national triple crown award that’s given annually to wrestlers who win national titles in all three styles: folkstyle, freestyle and greco.
In the same vein, there were four Iowa wrestlers that did that this year at the state level.
Three were in the Junior division: Sergeant Bluff-Luton’s Jack Gaukel, Linn-Mar’s Tate Naaktgeboren and West Delaware’s Wyatt Voelker.
Gaukel won a Class 2A state title in February at 152 pounds, then won freestyle and greco Junior titles at the same weight. The future Cyclone went a combined 8-0 this weekend with four pins, two technical falls and outscored his opponents 59-13.
