Why we shouldn't get rid of Rhoad's.... at least not yet.

Don't take this as a post in support of the guy's coaching ability. There is one big reason to keep CPR.... another reason to think about keeping him, and a response to thsoe of you who are calling for his head.

THE BIGGEST REASON to keep him is that there are a TON of coaching positions open out there.... many of which are more desireable than ISU. The pool of coaches that I would want to come here is limited. If we fire CPR then we will end up hiring someone from the bottom of that pool, and we will most likely have to pay them WAY too much to get them. Simple supply and demand.

POTENTIAL.... No one can deny that this team has a LOT of young talent.... on both sides of the ball.... and that there is some real potential there for this team to be really good next year. Getting rid of the coaching staff right now eliminates that potential for the next year or two. New systems, defections, restarting recruiting will all take us back a step. If the cupboard was bare CPR is gone.... but its not.... in fact its probably more full than ever.

WHOSE FAULT IS IT?..... The last two games have not been lost entirely to coaching... albeit the coaching didn't help. The refs helped us lose against OSU with a terrilbe spot... and we probably should have called TO when we realized it. But execute AT ALL either of those two plays and we get a first down. BTW.... CPR did not throw the INT at the end of the Okst game that sealed the deal. In replaying the game yesterday I don't see where the coaching lost us the game. Running the ball TWO TIMES with 1:31 left (or whatever) gets you to a point where YOU CAN take a knee and run out the clock.... the time it takes to run the play, unpile, set the ball, etc makes the difference. Taking a knee at that point gaurantees a punt or some run-around play that in all honestly has more disasterous potential than runinng up the middle twice.

CPR did not fumble three times yesterday. He has to trust his players to do their own jobs. If he can't do that what should he do?

I have not seen anyone mention that Mike Warren should be kicked off the team. He has cost us two games with fumbles. Lanning lost us the game against OSU with an INT at the end.... and yesterday because he fumbled the ball by carrying it around VERY carelessly at a point in the game where the ONLY way to lose the game would be him fumbling..... should he be benched? Removed from the team? Those two are the reasons we lost.... no one is calling for their heads... nor should they.

As much as I want to start fresh (I am SOOOOO tired of finding ways to lose) I just don't think that this year is the best year to do it. Frankly, if his players simply don't screw the pooch we have two more wins (Toledo and KSU) and if they execute one or two more plays (OKST) maybe we are bowling.

I was as mad as anyone after the game yesterday.... the knee jerk reaction I had was "F that guy... get him the hell out of there!" .... but sit and think about how much control he had over yesterday's loss.
