I am sure I will get laughed at for this suggestion, but how about Bob Stoops? There has been talk the past few years of Oklahoma fans getting restless, and the loss to Texas may be the nail in the coffin in terms of getting fired/forced to resign.
A few questions to ponder:
1) the proverbial "if he couldn't win at Oklahoma how would he win at ISU?" Well, he won, just not enough. But I think he's a good enough recruiter to have some pretty good years for ISU standards.
2) Would he come to ISU? No idea, but didn't he coach/play at Iowa? Familiar with the Big 12 and recruiting grounds. Coached with Mangino so may be able to work something out there.
3) Could ISU afford him? I would have to think ISU could pony up $3-4 million per. Not sure if that'd be enough, but I get the impression Leath wants to use athletics as a recruiting tool for the university.
Could he be the Johnny Orr of football at ISU?
Thoughts?
