Why is Michigan St. Even being considered for a 1 seed?

Just watched that awesome Big 10 slugfest they call basketball vs. Maryland. Neither of those teams are to impressive to me. Michigan St. has made there stretch run vs. A very average to even poor Big 10. I just do not see it. Even there RPI is sitting around 14 why in the world would they get a 1 seed. By the way the barely hung on to beat Maryland and Maryland made 1 field goal in the final 10 minutes.
