The 12 hour rule is now past. It is a good rule. I at least have a chance to not be posting in total and incoherent anger.

It is going to be a long season. Despite all of our hopes to the contrary, we do not have an offensive line, an P5 level quarterback or linebackers.

Our offensive line is a shambles. Our strength is our running backs and they can't generate room against an undersized FCS opponent to run. Had a coaching friend who use to say "you can't polish a turd." That fits this line. Not much to work with with.

Joel Lanning is, I am afraid, another in a long line of mediocre QB's that have moments but are not able to progress. Now much of that may be attributable to the Offensive line. But since Arnaud, it has been a vast wasteland as far as developed talent. Jantz, Barnett, Richardson, Rohach, etc. I don't know what it is, but ISU is where QB's go to die.

Linebackers were really slow. REALLY slow. They are either actually slow or they just don't instinctively react and look slower than they are. The defensive line, first team at least, looked respectable, but linebackers just couldn't consistently get their fills or close. And they took some absolutely horrible angles.

But my biggest disappointment was the game day coaching. I really thought that bringing a mostly intact staff would eliminate the sideline dysfunction that we saw too much of the last several years. Wrong again. Having to call timeout immediately after a UNI timeout because no one seemed to know what personnel were to be on the field and sending a 12th person on the field for a kickoff were Chizik-like. I truly do not know what to make of that.

Why do we substitute the entire defensive line? Why not rotate? And the miscommunication pass between Lanning and Ryen is really frustrating. Why was it even called? We had gone up with 7 minutes left. Had gained 10 or 11 yards on first down, then got 6 yards on the next first down. Why pass on 2nd down. We were 2 first downs or so from running the clock out. Why pass? At worse, we run 2 more plays and punt and take 2 plus minutes off the clock and have them down in their end of the field. I saw the defense creeping in, but we needed 4 yards in 2 plays not 30 yards in 1 play.

I hope the coach from Toledo we didn't get (Candle) didn't leave us, once again, without an offensive coordinator.
