What has to happen - maybe

I think the sense is that a change is coming. I also think the sense is that the change needs to be more than just a coaching change, although that is a significant part. So I have been thinking about what needs to change. I am not sure what it is but I have some thoughts.
  1. Some of it is money. Maybe a small bit of it can be accomplished by re-prioritizing allocations in the current budget. But any significant change is going to take new, significant revenue. I think Leath and Pollard will need to identify a significant group of like-minded boosters who would commit an additional 4-6 million dollars ANNUALLY dedicated to the football budget, over and above the current commitments that they make. That is a real challenge, but one that has to happen if we are going to have a chance. (I am not one of the targets for this, lol.)
  2. All of that new money (assuming it is derived) has to go to football, either directly or if given as Capital for Debt service reduction, and that savings ALL would go to football. Someone way more experienced and knowledgeable than me would have to determine how the money could be most advantageously spent for football.
  3. The new football coach needs, in my opinion, to be successfully experienced. Preferably, he would have been successful in a couple of programs, perhaps an FCS program and FBS group of 5 program. And he needs to have done it with his kids and coaches, not through inheriting someone else's.
  4. The new coach needs to have a plan that the individual or group of individuals that hires him can clearly see and market to the ISU faithful.
This is going to be difficult, given the timing. We already are having to budget Full Cost of Attendance for approximately 400 scholarships starting this year. Finding another big chunk of change that will have to be an annual commitment is going to be a challenge. But it is going to have to be done. Otherwise, we are just charging the same windmill. At least that is how I see it.
