Would we be in this big a meltdown if the Hawks were struggling to a losing season?
I know the answer for myself is a resounding NO, but I live so close to Iowa City that you can smell it when the wind is in the wrong direction, where the media are slobbery over the Hawks even when they aren't very good, so I may not be typical.
Come here from another planet, and look at the ISU football team. Three of our four losses were to unbeaten, ranked teams and the fourth was to a ranked team that has lost only to the #2 and #3 teams in the nation. We should have won one of the games, could have won another, and were competitive through more than a half of one of the other two.
Saturday we played the #3 team in the country even for more than a half and ended up losing by three scores. Granted, TCU probably is a bit overrated, but still.....
I think the success of the Hawks has a huge effect on the way I, personally, feel right now. Of course, that isn't all of it. I simply cannot put Toledo out of my mind.
