I know I'm stating the obvious. I also know it sounds like a hok -- we were the more talented team on the field, but we weren't the better team last night. I will really be happy when that gun we use to shoot ourselves in the foot finally runs out of ammo.
As an aside, we had company last night. As I kept peeking in on the game, I saw ISU doing all kinds of neat stuff, and never could figure out why we weren't running away with it. When they finally left, because he wanted to get home and watch UT, I sat down and saw why we weren't running away with it. Really frustrating.
We're not there, yet. We're about 2/3 there. Our defense held the #19 team to one TD. Our offense outscored the #19 team 2 TDs to 1. Just the same, they're young and prone to too many mental mistakes..
Our special teams, on the other hand, are not ready for prime time. I suspect we fair catch everything, because it's been shown in practice that our return specialists are just as likely to give up an easy score as gain any yardage from trying to return it.
There was a lot of hype about this team -- how it would compete with UT to play OU in the CCG. People on here were talking about the NCG. I think our own players read the hype and believed it before applying it.
We're not there, yet. Purdy and company are young. Lima, Rose, and company are as good as ever,. CMC needs to hire someone who can do special teams. The future is bright.
I'm glad we got this out of the way early. We beat hox in everything but the score, which is not a victory of any kind, in any stretch. And rankings be damned. I would have hated to go 8 or 9 games before realizing our house of cards needs work, and isn't there, yet.
I'm not giving up, and I'm all in with CMC. He's doing a fantastic job of bringing in better and better talent. These kids have talent far and above what we had just a few years ago, but they're making mistakes that need corrected. Instead of 10-2, I've revised my prediction to 9-3, because we still have BU and OU on the road. Here's hoping I don't have to hear anything else about hox until MBB time. They're irrelevant now in the scheme of things.
