I'm starting to think the Big 12 is playing the expansion game to perfection. There is no doubt that BYU is the top prize to add to the league. In a day and age of TV matchups, BYU would be a third marquis team in the league, with big games against both Texas and OU. In fact, both teams have scheduled them in recent years to high ratings. Any TV network would love them in the league, and IF the Big 12 is playing them for a better deal, they are playing it perfectly. Texas is touting Houston and OU Cincy. I'm not believing it.
The question is, who is the second team that brings the most to the table for TV? Not Cincy, Ohio State covers that. Not Houston, it's covered. The Florida teams are second tier. And CSU is not a big draw. Last man standing is UConn because they own a state and bring hoops to the table. Notice not much rumble on them in recent days.
Also, I'm not buying the unrest from the TV networks. If I'm the Big 12, I'm talking with the networks daily and having them help make the decisions.
I may be all wet, but IF the Big 12 has a strategy to bring BYU to the table at a bargain rate, they are playing it well.
Just my thoughts, no inside info here.
