SIAP...but was it ever discussed why the Big 12 decided to publicly announce they would look at expanding? There must be a reason because making that public statement would send the media into hyperdrive and bring pressure on the school presidents to deliver a very tangible improvement. I'm not cynical enough to think all ten presidents would sign off on this simply to provide cover for OU & UT to say "Sorry folks, we tried. Couldn't make it work so we best be leaving." Unless the decision makers are so ignorant as to make the announcement without a very specific and tactical reason, there is something else in play. My sense is they were really pissed ESPN green lighted the ACC network (whatever in the hell that ends up being) and the stability that came with the new GORs and wanted to bring as much pressure to bear on the networks to renegotiate as they possibly could. Boren aside, the conference presidents haven't shown any inclination towards microphones and spotlights. I really think this whole thing is about adding as few teams as needed to bring the conference payout to snuff and the GOR will follow. If I were a betting man I would say the odds of adding two new members is 50%, no new members is 35%, and four new schools is 15%.
