Although it's a very light weekend for official visitors, Iowa State will be hosting some prospects on game day that make this a pretty big next couple of days nonetheless. Here's a list of the official and unofficial visitors for the upcoming weekend. As always, this list is subject to revisions between now and then as Paul and I get more information.
Official Visitor:
Corey Dunn, P, 6-1, 210, San Francisco (Calif.) City College - committed
The lone official visitor of the weekend is one of the longest-tenured commitments of Iowa State's 2018 recruiting class. This former Australian-rules football standout picked the Cyclones way back in April and was the third known commit for the class. The coaching staff, led by director of recruiting Alex Golesh, evaluated several kickers from around the country and landed on Dunn as the choice to replace Colin Downing as the squad's punter for next season.
Game-Day Visitors:
Joey Ramos, OL, 6-4, 275, Glendale (Ariz.) Deer Valley HS - 2018
I just profiled him last month on the status of his recruitment and it sounded very good for the Cyclones at that time. The fact that this borderline four-star recruit is paying his own way to travel from Arizona to Ames this weekend speaks volumes on how he feels about offensive line coach Tom Manning, head coach Matt Campbell and their staff. Ramos also has Power-5 offers from Arizona, Arizona State, California, Kansas State, Nebraska, Oregon, UCLA, Utah, Washington and Washington State. He announced a top-six prior to his senior season, but if I had to guess it's probably down to ISU and the two in-state schools Arizona and Arizona State. It sounds as if Ramos could also be considering an official visit for the weekend of December 8th, which is notable because a majority of the Cyclones' 2018 commits will also be in town.
Will McDonald, ATH, 6-5, 200, Waukesha (Wisc.) North HS - 2018 commit
McDonald got the Cyclones' 2018 recruiting class rolling by become the first commit way back in February. The three-star athlete only had an offer from New Mexico at the time, but likely would have picked up more had he remained undecided longer. Iowa State will likely target McDonald to play a defensive end position, although the big man did pick up and run with the wide receiver position later in his senior season.
Gavin Williams, RB, 6-0, 190, Southeast Polk (IA) HS - 2020
Iowa State became the first to offer this rising in-state prospect over the summer, and Iowa has since followed suit. Yes, the Hawkeyes offered a high school sophomore! Williams had a big freshman season as a varsity starter and was a marked man for opposing defenses this fall. He still managed to rush for 732 yards and 12 touchdowns on 154 carries. Williams is also a threat as a receiver out of the backfield, catching 20 passes for 421 yards and a pair of scores. This will be the second game-day visit of the fall for Williams.
Jacob Dean, OL, 6-8, 315, Walled Lake (Mich.) Western HS - 2019
There must be something in the water up in Walled Lake, Michigan, as Dean is the next in a line of gigantic offensive linemen to come out of the town in recent years. Iowa State true freshman Rob Hudson was of course the first. Dean, a three-star junior, also has offers from Kent State and Ohio. He's also attracting early looks from Arkansas and Michigan State.
