The recruitment of a prep quarterback from the state of Tennessee will likely go into the final hours leading up to signing day next month, but Iowa State is in solid position and has him scheduled for an official visit.
Columbia Spring Hill’s Tylin Oden has been a soft commit to Louisville for more than seven months, but has decided to take a look around at other opportunities. One of those is the Cyclones and the new coaching staff in Ames.
“They had just gotten there from Toledo when they first spoke to me and offered me a scholarship,” said Oden, who said he has been in contact with offensive coordinator Tom Manning. “When I spoke to the coaches, they seemed very nice and respectful. They told me that I had a chance to compete pretty early, so that kind of opened up my eyes up about them.
“The coaches had success at Toledo and I watched their offensive scheme on YouTube. I’ve checked them out a lot, like what they do, what they’re about, so I decided to schedule an official visit up there for the weekend of January 22nd.”
Despite playing for a team that finished the season with a 3-7 record, Oden passed for 1,389 yards and rushed for 922 more, combining for 25 touchdowns and throwing seven interceptions.
In addition to ISU, Oden said he’s getting looks from several programs looking to fill a quarterback void in their 2016 classes.
“I’m still committed to Louisville, but I’m looking at other schools like Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, South Carolina and Texas A&M,” Oden said. “I’ll be taking an official visit to South Carolina on January 15th. Ohio State is talking about the 29th, but it’s not set in stone.”
Oden officially visited the Louisville campus the weekend of December 11th.
