Did some analysis of NCAA tourney sites relative to the top 16 Net Ranked teams (ISU was 16th at the time). The most centrally located city is Columbus Ohio at an average of 662 miles. Des Moines was 2nd most centrally located (which should argue for making it almost a permanent site). ISU is by far the closest team to any city, at 35m. Michigan and Kentucky were about 185 miles to Columbus Ohio.
Most of the top 16 is at least 1500 miles are farther to Salt Lake city. San Jose, absolutely crazy that it can even host. The closest team is 909 (Gonzaga), and most teams are between 1600 and 3000 miles away. The West region needs to be eliminated. Maybe go with NE, SE, SW, and NW regions, and thus they can locate the NW and SW regions as far east as the Mississippi valley. There should be no NCAA tourney city farther west than Denver, and most should be further east than that.
On thing beneficial to a team like ISU if we get stuck in San Jose, there will be very little fans from other schools there.
Distance wise for ISU, here they are from closest to furthest: DSM,Tulsa, Columbus OH, Salt Lake, Columbia SC, Hartford, Jacksonville, San Jose.
