This is a hard one to evaluate. Quite possibly Kansas is the worst team we have played.

  • They couldn't run the ball, which had been their strength. That is a plus.
  • They had a lot of yards passing - not sure what to make of that. I thought Floyd and Peavy played well. Cotton just struggles defending the pass. The scramble play was just a breakdown caused by a 3-man rush and no pressure. The long pass down the the west sideline was just a great play. Our defender was in position and the ball was outside shoulder. All you can do is tip the hat.
  • So, overall, defense is encouraging, particularly if Tribune gets his head on straight. I thought Mills helped the linebacker play rotations.
  • Offensively, 500 yards is nice, but, let's face it, KU is horrible on defense.
  • The redzone offense is not where it needs to be. I don't think we know how we want to approach redzone offense. Sometimes it looked easy. Sometimes we looked lost.
  • Warren looks good. And it is not the big runs, which are nice. To me, he reminds me of Troy and Darren and Enis in that he keeps his legs moving and gets 2 yards when that is all there is. Thomas looks like a freshman. Not decisive, missing the holes. Harger ran hard, but KU, not good to start with, was worn down by then.
  • Our backs have trouble blocking in pass protection and that cost us a couple of times.
  • Improvement is not as fast as it needs to be on offense.
  • Special teams - what can you say. Poor kickoffs (but great coverage, except for 1 time), punts were short except for the last one, and another short missed field goal.
  • If our offense ever gets it figured out, we have the defense to win 4 more games at least.
