I have to believe Flip Saunders is talking to Fred about waiting for the Minnesota job to open up. While Flip may not be ready to step down yet, he probably will in the not to distant future. It gives them time to mature the young players so that Fred could step into a better situation. I'm sure Flip is not going to want to see Fred go to the Bulls and will go to great lengths to get him to wait on the Minnesota job.
With the #1 draft pick and some other great young players on the roster, the Minnesota job could be a good one in years to come. They have a long way to go from where they are right now, but they seem to be in a pretty good spot.
