A few weeks from now is normally the time of year for getting the tailgating stuff ready. Tuning up the generator, cleaning and testing the tailgate grill, cleaning the truck bed, checking and restocking the non-perishables in the tailgate bins, and finally packing all that stuff in the truck. But I am starting early.
This year I am forced to reinstall a box I built for my tailgate table. The box houses one of those narrow tables made to fit a standard tailgate table. On my way to Ames last week, I heard a horrible noise when coming to a stop. I found out that tailgate box with the table inside it had come loose. It was moved from my old truck to this truck seven years ago and has been carrying that table all year around since. The box holds the table on it's side and is three or four inches wide and attached to the side of the truck bed. The zip-ties holding it to the side broke and gave me a big scare when the table and box fell down and was sliding around in back.
I noticed some water damage on the outside of the box, so I decided to sand it and apply some stain to protect it, knowing the truck bed isn't water tight under the high pressure car wash. When I remount it, I'll use double zip-ties and I'll be back in business.
Next up I need to fire up the generator and grill and make sure they are ready to go. The storage bins are at the condo garage, so that will have to wait. The whole process has me excited. Damn the Marlins anyway. It's not stopping me.f
Who else is gearing up for tailgating season?
