I just have to chuckle over all the comments made by pundits about what a sham it was that OU sat idle on Saturday and coasted into the playoffs without the risk of playing another game.
How many years did the Big 12 HAVE a conference championship game while the Big 10 was too "righteous" to hold one, and its leader had its season completed and sat idle that last Saturday? And if I'm not mistaken, didn't the Big 12 screw itself out of BCS championship consideration at least a couple of those years when our strongest team actually got beat in the conference title game?
And didn't the Big 10 BENEFIT from this...at least once? I don't have time to look up the particular seasons, but maybe some of you will recall what I'm talking about off the top of your head.
But throughout the past couple weeks, I never heard ONCE about how these tables have turned. Now, it's as if the Big 12 is getting in on a cheap ticket. And NOT ONCE have I heard a pundit mention the value of the Big 12 playing all teams in their conference to determine a true champion. They act as if this has no value whatsoever. The round robin is the oldest and truest form of championship. Really kind of torks me off.
Was listening to Mel Kiper early Saturday morning, and he was rambling on about what a "travesty" it was that Oklahoma didn't have to play Saturday. He said, "The NCAA needs to fix this." WTH....was it a travesty when the Big 10 sat out from a conference title game all those years? Hypocrisy at its finest. And the co-host never even thought to bring up the argument.
