A young man I work with was missing from work all of last week. Last I spoke to him he was heading from Minneapolis to Iowa City for the Iowa / Minnesota game with friends - even though he himself didn't go to either school. He's a quiet guy - big, but quiet.
Well, while in Iowa City he witnessed some guys (Iowa fans) hassling a girl - so he finally stepped in to ask them to back off. He woke up in a hospital with a fractured orbital socket and a concussion. He told me the first punch definitely came from behind - and the last thing he remembers he was being kicked and punched by several people.
It seems like I have heard this same type of story a number of times resulting from Iowa City. It must happen in most college towns - but it seems to me it happens more frequently in Johnson County. My b-in-law is a cop in Coralville - and the stories he tells me working the night shift make it sound like Chicago. Bad karma town.
