It didn’t take long for a pair of Iowa State assistant coaches to become sold on a defensive back for the Class of 2017, as the Texas prospect picked up an offer on Tuesday morning just a day after receiving contact for the first time.

Corinth Lake Dallas standout Kobe Boyce said he communicated with assistant D.K. McDonald earlier this week and would soon have an offer from the Cyclones.

“On Monday night, the defensive backs coach followed me and hit me up on Twitter,” said Boyce. “He let me know how interested he was. We had talked a little bit. Then on Tuesday morning after workouts, I went to my locker and found out Iowa State had offered me a scholarship. That was crazy. It happened so fast. I’m thankful it happened.

“I think they really enjoyed my film. Coach (Lou) Ayeni is the one who offered me. He and Coach McDonald watched the film together and made the decision to offer me a scholarship. They like what I bring to the table and feel I can be a big part of the team.”

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Boyce, who is being recruited to play cornerback at the next level, said he brings a lot to the field.

“I feel my strengths are reading routes and my speed,” he said. “I’m also good with my hips and can change directions quickly.”

Boyce, who said he is acquaintances with current Cyclone and former Denton Guyer product Jordan Wallace, will likely take a Junior Day or unofficial visit to Ames in the coming weeks.

“I’m looking forward to checking into what Iowa State has to offer,” Boyce said. “I appreciate the offer. I’m probably coming to a Junior Day sometime in late February or early March. I’ll for sure be coming up there for a visit.”

While I-State was first in the door with an offer to Boyce, Oklahoma, TCU, Arkansas and Texas have also been recruiting the cornerback.
