The below post was made on the Shaggy Texas board, and I think it is spot on, although I think Texas can keep LHN going for a few more years before Texas really needs to act to take control of its future . . .
Well the writing's on the wall. The only question that remains is, will Texas' leadership start making proactive moves to ensure our future success?
It's obvious this latest XII expansion conversation was initiated by Boren in an attempt to get a conference network and more money. He tried to strong arm the rest of the conference and the networks as well and it blew up in his fat $#@! face.
The problem doesn't go away though. OU isn't happy with where things currently stand and if they aren't made happy they're eventually going to leave, rendering the XII dead in the water and forcing Texas to move to another conference.
Texas needs to decide now what it is they really want and then make the necessary moves in order to get that. The bottom line is; the piece of $#@! that started all of this, LHN, will be going away regardless of what path they choose. No matter what the delusional Randolph Duke's of the world will tell you.
Does Texas want:
Option 1: The XII remains and they remain it's leader with OU.
Action: Then voluntarily convert the LHN to the XIIN. OU will be appeased, the little 8 will be delighted and the XII will live on as long as OU and Texas want it to. But make no mistake about it the LHN is THE issue. It's the issue that caused Nebraska to leave for the B1G and A&M to leave for the SEC. It will ultimately be the issue that causes OU to leave for another conference as well. If Texas wants the XII to survive and OU to stay then it has to give up the LHN.
Option 2: Keep the LHN
Action: Obstinately stand pat. Hang on to a piece $#@! network that nobody really even enjoys and have several more millions for a couple of years until ESPN decides to fold the damn thing when the contract is up. Because they will be folding it, that much is certain. If we want those extra millions that bad then it will cost us OU and the XII will be officially dead and we'll be looking for a new home, none of which will let us bring along the LHN.
EITHER WAY THE LHN IS DONE.
If we decide we want to go with Option 2, which I'm sure we will because our leadership has more hubris than sense, we'll get our millions, "save face" and then we'll be looking for a new home, either the SEC, B1G, ACC or Pac.
So which one do you want $#@!s? Figure that $#@! out NOW and make moves accordingly to secure your spot.
The one thing that we absolute can't afford to do is to continue Randolph Duking it like a bunch of arrogant dumb $#@!s.
This idea that we've got a spot where ever we want whenever we want is pure fantasy. And if we continue to $#@! around this thing could cause very serious long term damage to our athletics program.
If the SEC decides they're tired of waiting on us and OU decides they're over it too and both OU and either Ok St or KU go to the SEC then we are properly $#@!ed. Delude yourself all you want, that would be an unmitigated disaster for Texas.
Our options would then be:
1. Relegation to the G5 in a hapless XII.
2. The Pac 12 on an island with one, two or three of our friends.
3. The B1G on an island with none of our friends.
4. The ACC on an island with none of our friends.
All of them with without the LHN, mind you.
Every one of those options is a complete and utter $#@!ing disaster.
So we need to act AHEAD of time to decide what conference we want.
1. XII - then convert the LHN and appease OU
2. SEC - then talk to them about who would be #16, OU or otherwise
3. Pac - only go if OU comes with
4. B1G - only go if OU comes with
5. ACC - $#@! that stupid $#@!.
Got damn this isn't that $#@!ing hard. Figure out which conference you want to be in long term and then scrap the LHN for a XIIN or start planning your future in the SEC, Pac or B1G.
My vote is the Pac with OU, OSU and Tech or the SEC with OU or the SEC maybe without OU. I can see a scenario where Texas moves to the SEC and then the B1G decides to offer KU and OU and they take it. I could maybe be be okay with Texas and OU to the B1G but not really. Just too far from the rest of the conference. So it's the Pac with OU and two others or the SEC with OU or the SEC without them. Let's get this stupid $#@!ing $#@! over with.
