Interesting Iowa-ISU season comparison.
Iowa won 4 games against NCAA tourney teams. A 2 seed, 6 seed, 11 seed and 12 seed. Would’ve been 3 if not for Oregon’s tournament run in a terrible PAC-12. 3 of the 4 wins were at home. Oregon was neutral site.
By contrast ISU won 8 games against tourney teams. A 3 seed, 2 4 seeds twice, a 9 seed, and an 11 seed twice. 3 of the wins were on the road and 2 were neutral sites.
Point being Iowa’s season was underwhelming when you dig a little bit. Certainly not tremendous. Still got Fran a $400,000 raise. If they get bounced first round that fan base is going to remain pretty fractured, and understandably so.
In my opinion their struggles are very simple to explain. They are just plain slow as a team. Not nearly enough foot speed to compete consistently with good teams.
