One of the top tight ends on Iowa State’s board for 2017 is a standout three-star prospect from the Illinois high school ranks.

Lemont junior Logan Christopherson visited Ames back in March for a Junior Day and has kept in tables with the Cyclone program since then. I-State assistant coach Lou Ayeni was on campus last week for spring evaluations and gave a solid report on how much the recruit has developed.

“Iowa State was in-school last Monday,” said Christopherson. “Coach Ayeni came in to see me work out and was really proud of me of how far I came from the last time he saw me. I’ve been gaining weight. He noticed how my strong workouts have been affecting my body. He was really impressed by all of that.

“After Coach Lou was in, I got to get on the phone with Coach (John) Kuceyeski and then the head coach Matt Campbell. He gave me some feedback and was really excited about Coach Lou’s report on the improvements I’ve made in the off-season.”

The 6-foot-6, 225-pound tight end said he enjoyed his visit over the winter, and that his primary recruiter Alex Golesh has been keeping tabs on him.

“They’ve made a pretty good impression on me,” Christopherson said. “When I visited there, I had a good time and felt a good connection with them. Coach Golesh really made sure I had a good time when I was up there. We’ve been staying in touch and talking. They’ve been doing a good job recruiting me.”

Of particular interest to Christopherson were the facilities at I-State.

“I was very impressed with all of them,” he said. “They had some of the newest technologies and that really drew my eye. The weight room is just phenomenal. The new staff has also brought a lot to the table. Academically, I didn’t get to see much but I’m sure that’s pretty high up there, too.”

Next in the recruiting process for Christopherson is a return visit from the Cyclones in May, as well as a potential stop in Ames in the coming months.

“There’s a chance I might visit Iowa State again,” he said. “I’m looking forward to seeing Coach (Alex) Golesh again next month.”

In addition to ISU’s offer, Christopherson has ones from Illinois, Missouri and Syracuse. The recruit said he’s looking forward to making a decision prior to the start of his senior year.
