Iowa State is set to host a Florida prep defensive back on an official visit in a month as it looks to fill out the 2017 recruiting class with at least one player at the position.
Largo Pinellas Park senior Zamari Maxwell says he is looking forward to being back in the state of Iowa after taking an official visit to Iowa City the weekend of the Cy-Hawk game in September.
“Iowa State is really interested in getting me up there, so we planned on me having a visit the weekend of January 21st,” said Maxwell, who has also officially visited UCF. “They’ve been interested in me heavily for a while now. They like my length, athleticism and ability to make plays. They also really like how I play different positions.”
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Maxwell said he’s felt the love from the Cyclone coaching staff for several months and says that’s one of the best aspects of the program.
“I get the feeling that the coaching staff is full of really good people, just based on seeing Coach (D.K.) McDonald and Coach (Tyson) Veidt. I’ve seen Coach Veidt down here the most. We’ve kept up communication for over a year now and built a really good relationship.”
It’s shaping up to be a five-horse race for Maxwell down the stretch, as he said he’ll likely choose between the likes of Iowa State, Iowa, Kentucky, Illinois and UCF.
All five schools were in-home with him during the December recruiting, including McDonald and Veidt from I-State. Maxwell is planning an official visit to Kentucky next month, but has nothing set with Illinois to this point.
