It is all but over for Paul Rhoads, barring some kind of major turnaround. I find that I am neither happy nor sad at that prospect. Resigned is probably the word.
We were the slower team today. That is sad, considering it is Iowa and will be maybe the slowest team we play the rest of the way. They just flat out kicked our ass on both lines of scrimmage the second half. It wasn't just that, either. We looked lost on offense and I just don't understand our substitution pattern of defense. Twice we had them backed up inside the five yard line and brought in a lot of reserves on defense at a time when we had them reeling. And both times they lose contain and give up big yardage. I understand rotation, but I also understand momentum.
And the reverse pass was a lousy call - again at a time when we had momentum.
But the biggest reason, to me, that the end is coming is the 4th and 1 foot and refusal to go for it. That was not the coach we hired in the first 3-4 years. Too many recruiting mistakes, too many poor coaching hires and a very poor record of player development. The next 3 games are the whole season. Period.
