Stimulus Debit Card

Okay, I previously mentioned how my now 2-1/2 year deceased mother-in-law received a $1,200 stimulus check in the mail 3 weeks ago. Even said "deceased" right on the check. We sent it back.

Yesterday, I received a plain white envelope in the mail with "Money Network Cardholder Services" in the return address...out of Omaha.

Looked like junk mail to me...just another credit card or quick loan offer that I get frequently. I almost tossed it, but at the last minute this morning I opened it.

Inside was a debit card...and a flimsy note saying it was an Economic Impact Payment Card...supposedly from the U.S. Treasury. With phone numbers to call to activate, determine the balance, etc.

I've read about all kinds of scams out there regarding this stimulus money. Anyone else receive this similar "plain Jane" white envelope and card? And is this legitimate? I don't want to be calling any phone numbers to activate without knowing for sure.

I was planning to just take my check to the bank...and to pay down a loan. I wonder if they are using the debit card now thinking that people will actually look for ways to immediately spend it instead.

I wonder how many of these cards get tossed in the trash without even being opened? Again, it sure looked like junk mail to me.
