I was as disappointed with the outcome of yesterday's game as anyone. Maybe more because I also feel the sting from losses in volleyball and soccer. Going into the game I didn't know how we could win a game without a running game. The first half had my hopes up. The second half was where I thought we would be minus a passing game. That was very disappointing.
Having a night to sleep on it, I have decided that now is not the time to give up on the team. We are only two games into the season. The team this year looks to be much better than last year. The defense, while giving up some big plays, is light years ahead of last year. It is good enough to win us some games. Last year it wasn't. The offense while discouraging yesterday, should be better than last year. We didn't lose much and returned a whole lot of experience. We should get better as the line continues to develop and there is no reason why we can't find an adequate running game. Outside of Tucker, we seem to have remained relatively injury-free, which is a big step up from last year.
Bottom line is we should be a much better team than last year. We can still win some games. After what Toledo did to Arkansas, I'm not sure where those wins are going to come from. But I believe they will come. Don't give up yet.
