I really am looking forward to the Spring "game" next Saturday. First, getting a firsthand look at the SEZ construction ought to bring a lot of Cyclones out to the game. Secondly, since AIB East is in DM, I would hope some good old Cyclone pride would bring a lot of fans to Ames.
But most importantly, I am excited to see some of the newcomers, particularly on defense. Particularly Tucker, Harris, Jones and Wiltz could make a big impact. Also seeing some of the redshirt frosh and sophs is important to me. Any hope of being better significantly rests with the defense, imo.
I don't expect to see much out of the offense. First, I can't remember the last spring game where the offense looked good. Whether it is because they are under wraps or just so basic the defense knows what is coming I don't know. Secondly, the offense will be pretty short-handed. Wide receivers are hurt (recuperating) from fall injuries and defections, running back only has two scholarship kids available with Syria's injury, and I suspect we will see a lot of Roach and Lanning. Part of that is due to what I believe will be a conservative approach to injuries on the offensive line. But all of that gives youngsters a chance a game conditions.
Finally, we get to be a most Cyclone fans a maybe, just maybe, catch some information from those here with much keener and more expert eyes than mine.
See you all Saturday?
