I've placed one sports bet in my life. That was at New York New York in Vegas. And I broke all rules when I placed said bet. (1) Don't bet on your own team. (2) Never bet on your team to beat Colorado in basketball in Boulder no matter how crappy CU is that year. I violated both of those rules and not only lost my bet. I watched one of the crappiest game of that era. I think it was in the 90's.

So yesterday after leaving Cyclones Unplugged, I decide I'm going to head over to Prairie Meadows and sign up at their sports book. So I do that. It wasn't as easy as it should have been, but I got signed up. I didn't fund the account yet, so I can't bet on anything yet, but I'll be ready once they approve transfers to and from a bank account. I wasn't going to leave money in an account not knowing if I'd ever place a bet. But also the fact that you have to show up at the casino do withdraw any winnings or make additional deposits. That's just too inconvenient when you live in Cedar Rapids.

I was surprised to learn the William Hill sports book locations include Isle Casino Hotel Waterloo, Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf, Lakeside Hotel Casino in Osceola as well as Prairie Meadows Casino in Altoona. That's nice to know, but it doesn't help much when you live in Cedar Rapids, where the gaming commission won't allow a casino. I guess we deserve it. The city refused to allow it for years. Now that they want one, they can't have it.
