... well, not really but I thought the title might grab your attention.

But I do have a DVR that seems to have a mind of its own. Yes I'm still a slave to DirecTV. This DVR will just randomly decide it doesn't want to DVR things I've programmed it to record. I get no warning, I just realize it happened when a show I had been looking forward to fails to record on the night it first aired. Sometimes, if I catch it soon enough, I can get it to record the show on a rerun later that night. This happens a lot on the History Channel or A&E. A show that runs at 8 p.m. will often be repeated a couple of hours later. But some shows I'm not so lucky.

But that's not all this DVR does. It will randomly quit recording a show on the channel I selected after flawlessly recording on that channel for many, many weeks, and start recording the same show on a completely different channel that I don't subscribe to. This most frequently occurs on a local station and on syndicated programs that are sometimes first runs or sometimes reruns that I never watched the first time around. There are local-ish channels on DirecTV that vaguely correspond to my local channels, but the ones I don't get have high channel numbers, like 376. The highest number my regular local channels go to is 51. When this happens, I have to go in and reprogram the DVR and then monitor it for a couple of days to make sure the reprogramming took. Sometimes, it doesn't.

Then, the DVR likes to record one episode of Bluebloods, every time it reruns. The same episode over and over, despite the fact that I have the DVR set to record only first runs of that show. It does the same thing with a whole series that hasn't had a new season in several years. it will record this series, all 8 episodes, in like half a second. Seriously, one minute they're not there and the next they magically appear. Usually, when the DVR is recording a series of shows like that, I know it's recording something, because the orange record light on the front of the DVR is on, but not when this show records. I would make it stop recording this series, but there's no option on that particular program to make it stop like there is on every other program I record. Baffling.
