Evidently, he received part of a mass email from his Alma Mater regarding some "Big News" coming soon about NIU moving to a "major" conference. My friend is speculating that it would be to the Big 12. He said they have some major facility planned, but he said that was under a 3 year window. I told him they'd need more than 5 restroom stalls per side for starters.
In all of the rumors that have been out there fore a long time, I don't know that I've EVER heard NIU being mentioned as a possibility.
Not trying to open this up for any type of debate of their worthiness (they would need MAJOR MAJOR upgrades), just passing along what I heard from him. The Big 12 part was pure speculation on his part, based upon the "needs to happen for a conference championship game. It did not sound like the video in the email talked specifics, just that there would be an announcement about them joining a MAJOR conference. It didn't even say it would be a P5 one.
