Tuned in over lunch and they were talking about Texas and Oklahoma in the Big 12 next season. One guy mentioned that Iowa St isn't going away even though they lost Montgomery and Butler. Said they have 9 of top 12 tacklers back on defense. They didn't think we would win the conference yet but did say we could cause problems since we beat OU 2 years ago and played them tough this year.
Then they went on about Campbell and how everyone they talk to say he's a star. One guy asked how Ohio State couldn't go after him. The other guy seemed to know a lot about the Ohio St situation and said Gene Smith made pro/con lists for interim coach Ryan Day, Campbell and Bob Stoops. In the end all the knowns for Day won out plus it was the best chance to hang on to assistants.
Was really surprised how positive the discussion was on Iowa St. They did say Iowa St fans realize Campbell will leave, but didn't really have a timeline. I was tempted to call in and ask about all the NFL job openings that Matt supposedly turned down or dismissed and how he wants to build a winner there as long as he has support. Let them know that he's received over $1,000,000 each of the last 2 years for his assistants and our AD won't let him go easily. But I didn't.
