As many of you may know, I rarely drink. I can count on one hand the number of alcoholic beverages I've had this year and have fingers left over. However, of late, I've been craving a sipping whiskey for some reason. I don't really even drink whiskey or never have. At one time, when I was way younger, I tried to develop a taste for scotch and water, just because I thought it was cool to say in a public place, "yeah, I'll have a scotch and water." I really didn't care for it, however, but kept trying it anyway for a couple of months before giving it up for good. I also had a go with various mixed drinks, but also gave that up.
Now, if I have a drink, it's either one beer or one bloody Mary. I've never really been a fan of any type of whiskey, especially with no mixer with it, so this craving is a little odd.
Well, I finally bit the bullet, did some minimal research on sipping whiskey and finally picked one. I went to the liquor store today and bought a bottle of Bulleit Bourbon (Bit the bullet? Get it?). I've gotta say, as far as bourbon whiskey goes, it's pretty damned good. It's got a spicy aftertaste and not at all like I remember straight whiskey tasting. I'm not about to go overboard on this stuff. I had less than a finger of it just now and still enjoying the glow, but that's all I'll have tonight. This bottle will probably last me until next December as little as I drink.
